a
WikiLog, sort of
I'm becoming less & less convinced of the wiki-calendar idea.
Hiya Richard....I've been playing with this idea a little. At wikka∞ I've put code for a simple calendar scheduler & a day schedule list. Currently it only does it for the logged in user, but the dayschedule could be easily changed to show the schedule for any user, and the scheduler could be changed to highlight the days that have scheduled entries. Hope this helps. --Mike Bowen.
Chief benefits:
-being able to edit from anywhere
-broadcasting my location to interested parties
Drawbacks:
-impossibly hard to edit using raw tables
-if coding-assisted, would require lots of work to support day/week/month views, etc.
-ditto for repeated events, overlapping events, etc.
-can't sync with Palm
Nonetheless, here's my shot at a
FallSchedule03.
After some moderate success, we offer
SpringSchedule04.
Time to hack out
FallSchedule04. Note that in light of
this thread∞, we'll probably be using Yahoo's calendar for specific events because it's <3
Update:
yay∞
Update2: Yahoo's Outlook-sync tool is kinda buggy, so the above link may cease to be updated at any point. Also, Exchange + OWA is a great solution, but for better or worse I now need a way to sync
two Exchange calendars. This may be via Yahoo, another website, or a future
PocketPC.
There will be no '05 Schedules. As nice as it would be to parametrize my free time by project, I've decided:
- they don't work terribly well either as guidelines for myself or information for others
- they are not nearly flexible enough; part of that is by design, but a better design would allow for new to-do items to bubble onto the stack so long as they didn't interfere longterm (at least not without proper deliberation)
- wetware context switches are expensive; I've found it especially true in my case FWIW
- I do not actually maintain priority levels for free-time activities, certainly not with enough granularity to plan so drastically in advance
Instead (though not as a direct replacement), I will create a
FreeTimePlan05. I hope to use the Wiki to list my
StuffToDo in a more organized fashion and apply some basic prioritization, but the goal is not to assign an order nor partition my time explicitly. Instead, I just want to ensure that any medium-to-large task popped from the stack is completed before taking on another.
