Ideally, I make my run late enough in my life/career that I can do so without the circus of political fundraising. In particular, if I decide to run for public office instead of an appointed position (likely: judge), my TV spot will look something like this:
Hello. I'm Richard Berg, and I'm running for [position]. I think you'll find I'm different from the candidates you're used to. This ad won't be full of happy platitudes, and its results won't be scrutinized by a team of pollsters. Instead, I want the opportunity to tell you about myself, for real.
I've never run for office before, and have no intention of a long political career. I don't feel a commercial can do justice to my views, although I encourage you to visit the website below. I won't pretend to know all the answers, but if a question is important to you I'll search my hardest for an answer -- a solution that is, not a soundbite.
If you prefer another candidate, I advise you to vote for him. Even if you've never voted or haven't done so in a long time, please make the effort this November. Our democracy is more important than I am. Thank you.
